[WARNING!]  03/09/2010: Bob from PA, USA writes: "Here is Rusty's story .

On October the 5th 2009 I took my 6 year old Airedale to my regular vet . I had received a post card reminding me that Rusty was due for his "so-called" necessary annual distemper/parvo vaccination. Within less than one week after the vaccination, Rusty showed signs of a form of neurological twitch as one might call it. He would twitch or quiver at sounds; his chest shook. I called the vet who said to give him a baby aspirin; maybe he injured himself playing is what the vet indicated. This did not sound right to me, but after all I was following the "so called"expertise of a 30 year practicing vet. The nervous twitching seemed to subside, however, within the next week I felt that Rusty had lost weight. He was also not eating well. I called the vet immediately and took Rusty to his office. He had a fever of 103.4 and had gone from 68 pounds to 63 pounds in that time period. Blood was drawn and sent out that day for testing. The following day I got a call from the vet; he said Rusty had Lymes disease and that his creatine level was 8.4 . He said Rusty was having acute renal failure. He blamed me and said that if Rusty had been given a Lymes disease vaccination at age one, this would not have happened. ( I DID have him vaccinated for the next 4 years (following the first year) on the recommendation of the vet). I asked what could be done for Rusty; I was told nothing could be done to save his life. The vet recommended subcutaneous fluids, but after 3 days of this painful procedure, Rusty showed no signs of improvement in eating or his overall looks. In our hearts, my wife and I felt the diagnosis was probably correct, even though we prayed and hoped that there might be a chance to save him. We asked the vet where we could take Rusty to try and save his life, and after getting quite a negative response, we were finally referred to a specialty hospital in Maryland. Within two days we had an appointment and took him there on Saturday, October 24. The Veterinarian who met with us did not appear to have a positive outlook, but these specialists were willing to try anything to save him.

After the first day of IV treatment, antibiotics and other medicines administered, his creatine level dropped to 5.8 but over a period of the next three days it did not improve. We had to make the heart wrenching decision to have euthanasia, October 28. We spent time with him on this last day, cradling him in our arms, until we felt the time had come to say our final goodbye to our beloved friend. The female Veterinarian who did the euthanasia spoke with me in detail afterwards. She went over all the tests that had been performed on Rusty to help them determine what had possibly caused this renal failure. She said that every test known to them had been conducted, including the Titer test. The conclusion was...He did not have and most probably never did have Lymes disease; he did not have Leptospirosis; nor had he ingested anything that was considered a poisonous agent. Their final conclusion was that they could not determine a definitive cause of renal failure. Sometimes though, I believe the vets in Maryland were somewhat mystified as to what happened; other times I believe they may have known the cause, however due to possible litigation, they were reluctant to speak up.

I will always admire the vet at the hospital. She took the time to relay all the information about what they did to try to determine the cause. As we were getting ready to leave and take Rusty back to our hometown to a vet, different from the regular vet, to have him cremated, she pulled me aside and said.."if we ever get another Airedale, NEVER allow him to get a Lymes Disease vaccination". She has two dogs and never gives them that vaccination. She said there is entirely too much negative data concerning the results of annual Lymes vaccinations. She said the best way to handle this is to have an annual blood test to determine your dog's overall health. She said treating Lymes disease, if present, is easier than trying to save a life after repeated annual Lymes vaccinations. She gave me a hug and she cried with me. She was so genuine and caring. She then said, if you really want to know what happened to Rusty, have his kidneys removed for necropsy. I asked the vet, who would cremate him, to do so. The kidneys were sent out for testing and here are the results.

The Veterinarian Pathologist who conducted the study listed in his report... that over a period of approximately several years Rusty's kidneys showed signs of chronic kidney failure due to possible Lymes disease. ?? So, you may ask, if the specialist at the hospital did all the necessary tests and they concluded he DID NOT have Lymes disease, nor did they see any signs that he ever did, then what caused this chronic kidney disease and eventual acute kidney failure and why are there disparaging conclusions.

So now we come to the bottom line. What happened! Maybe I will never be told the truth, but after spending dozens of hours on the phone with leading specialists concerning over vaccinations and vaccinosis and communicating with many people like you who are reading my story and who have a sad story like ours, I know that I am not alone in this horrible experience. I have spent hundreds of hours on the internet researching kidney failure and vaccines. My wife and I spent over $8,000 to try and save Rusty's life and we lost him because we were not informed; we were not told the truth about vaccines and their side effects from our vet. From what I have been told, and through my own research, Rusty did experience acute renal failure, on top of chronic kidney disease which had been occurring over the years from the annual distemper/parvo and lymes disease vaccines. I am now informed for the future; it is far too sad though that I did not know the truth before hand so that this tragedy did not have to happen to Rusty.

I wish to say that I do not believe all veterinarians in this country are money hungry and vaccinate just for profit. I do believe there are many fine and reputable practicing vets who are more concerned with the overall health and well being of our beloved pets. Sadly, I used a vet, who obviously did not read the American Veterinarian Associations recommendations, set forth in 1994, to stop vaccinating every year for distemper/parvo and to follow the new guidelines set within the past several years, to stop administering Lymes vaccinations.

I will always live with those horrible words from that original vet who said this was my fault . I know the day will come when he will see justice in front of a greater power.

I will always admire the vets who tried to save his life; they all reassured me this was never my fault.

I will always be ever thankful to my wife who felt the same pain I did during this ordeal, and sadly, after four and a half months, her tears for Rusty are ever present. She loves him so dearly as I do. The kind of love and friendship we shared with Rusty will never stray from our minds or hearts.

We now have a new boy living with us. He is an Airedale puppy, who was graciously allowed to be in our Family, by a most wonderful and truly fantastic lady in Michigan who breeds and shows Airedales. As difficult as it is to find Airedales of good stock and finding a breeder who is dedicated to her charges, her heart went out to us and she sold us one of her pups which she was going to keep for herself. She is the most magnificent person in our lives and we love her for her gift.

In truth and loving memory and tribute to our Rusty, I will close with these words.....

If you love your cat, your dog, or any pet that ever requires vaccinations, do what I am going to do. ALWAYS have a complete blood test and urinalysis done before ever getting any vaccinations done. Know what your pet's health condition is FIRST before ever placing your pet at risk for any horror that could be waiting.
THEN make sure you get a Titer test done so you know your pet's level of immunity or possible resistance to that which you may be getting ready to vaccinate for.

You may question this and say, WHY! That will cost quite a few dollars. YES , it will, however, the alternative is spending thousands of dollars like I did to save your friend who may be sick or dying from unnecessary vaccination related diseases. Through the blood test, urinalysis and Titer, you will know where your pet's health stands in it's present ability to fight off these diseases that vets seem to indicate are so rampant in this country. But are they really rampant?

Have these tests done so that you may be able to keep your pet for many, many years with happiness and joy and in good health.

For our Beloved Rusty and our new Boy

Thank You for reading my story .

[WARNING!]  10/27/2010: Nitehawk from Camp Verde, Arizona, America replies: "Dear Bob & Wife in Pennsylvania: My eyes fill with tears at the loss of Rusty. And, at the loss of our wonderful Tuffy, an Australian Shepard who was only 4 years old when he suffered the same fate as Rusty. The Vet was a classic idiot, and I blamed myself for quite awhile until it was proven that I wasn't responsible for Tuffy's death. It wasn't Lyme's disease, either. It was a side affect from his rabies shots that caused kidney failure.

Even tho it's been 6 years ago, I remember clear as a bell saying thank you and farewell to the most amazing friend I'd ever had. My husband had raised him on goat's milk from a 3 day old orphan. We still miss our Tuffy. We always will. One thing I can say we gained from his time with us: From then on we will seek a second opinion & optional treatment. Vets are merely guessing, with little more knowledge than we have. Shame on those vets who have no compassion for their charges, or their people. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt experience with Rusty."

01/22/2011: Mk3jade from Gaithersburg, Maryland replies: "My heart really goes out to you and your wife. I could not imagine the pain you had to go through. I have an 6.5 year old yorkshire terrier and I live in Maryland. When I moved to Maryland I found a vet and He recommended I get the lyme disease vaccine for my dog. Well ever since my dog got this vaccine he has had these "fits" where his body stiffens and he cannot move but he is totally conscious but has no control over his body.

When the first "fit" happened I was terrified and called the vet immediately and he said the fit was due to the dog licking flea shampoo while I gave him a bath which was absolute malarchy. My dog has repeatedly had these "fits" and the stupid vet still thinks its flea shampoo.

I feel really guilty that I did not do more research into this vaccine and allowed this doctor to convince me it would be okay. The only good news is I only got the first to injections of the lyme disease vaccine for my dog and I did not ever get it again.

I really think more research needs to be done for this vaccine. I think it does more damage then good. Im terribly sorry for your loses and I hope we can get the word out about the downside to this vaccine."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  01/26/2011: Ann R. from Kenosha, Wi replies: "My vet suggested my coonhound mix Trixie be vaccinated for Lyme disease even though I use tick prevention all year. Within 3 days she was having trouble moving her head and neck and "screamed" if anyone bumped her. She is normally somewhat crazy, jumping and barking at everything, but she stopped barking completely. My vet said it could not possibly be a reaction to the Lyme vaccine because she had no swelling at the injection site and also b/c the new vaccine has no live bacteria. She treated her for a "pulled muscle" with anti-inflammatories and pain meds and then gave her a Lyme booster a few weeks later.

Now, six months later, she is having her third episode of what seem to be intense pain. She stops playing, will not jump on the couch and does not even lift her head when the mailman comes. The area of the body affected seems to change day to day - first her neck, then her hips, etc. The areas are not tender to touch or swollen. Luckily it only seems to last about 5-7 days but it is heartbreaking to see her so sad. I feel so guilty for not researching the vaccine before getting it. My vet refused to consider it could be an adverse reaction and said a Lyme test was not needed. She said it is probably a degenerative disc or Trixie just needs to "calm down and stop injuring herself.""

01/27/2011: Vicki from Dallas, Tx replies: "For Ann R. : Perhaps you could try natural treatments for Lyme that would help your dog. There's a product called GoChi that's great that I'm using and my son who got Lyme as a teenager. The kinds of sugars it has in it really help people suffering with Lyme. I have a little Chi whose kidneys & liver were severely damaged by the melamine poisoned dog treats in 2008 & it brought him back from just existing. He survived the original poisoning because I rushed him to the vet & used milk thistle, raw dessicated kidney & liver caps and the usual kidney helping herbs, but it was the juice that allowed him to become active again. There's a holistic MD in Missouri who treats his Lyme patients with injections of sugar right next to the ligaments and he's had a lot of success, so I know the sugars in the juice are what helps the joint issues. It's a 100 percent natural with no preservatives. You can read about it on PubMed."
03/14/2011: Jeannie from Des Moines, Ia replies: "How is your dog doing today? my dog seems to have had the same reaction, who is a Shiztsu, and my vet also swears that the symptoms have nothing to do with the shot even though this all started the evening after he got the shot."
[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/02/2011: Delynne from Castroville, Tx, Usa replies: "I have three chihuahua's. The other day I took two of them to get the rest of their shots and one of the shots was the lyme shot. The youngest dog is only 7 months and the other dog is a little over 1yr. Anyways the youngest had no reaction whatsoever and the other one did. It was so sad! He wouldn't walk the next day nor eat. He yelped when you picked him up due to pain. He shaked and just wanted to lay there. He received his shot on a saturday and still on Monday he still doesn't feel good. I informed the vet he will not be getting the 2nd dose in three weeks.. Very sad!"
[SIDE EFFECTS]  07/08/2011: Mrs D from Simpsonville, Sc replies: "My 3 yr. old dog just receive a rabie shot on yesterday and now she can't walk and she is not eating what did you do for your pet, the vet says it had nothing to do with the shot but I think different."
08/17/2011: Ravenquille from High In The Mountains, Pa replies: "I had one of my cats die in a few days after getting his first Rabies shot. After that, I no longer vaccinate, or use any traditional medications for my cats ( I use diet and naturopathic, natural measures only ).
Any kind of vaccine is dangerous to both man and beast; it is always best to avoid them altogether."
11/20/2011: Sueq from Elizabeth, Sa, Australia replies: "@mk3jade, I am sorry for everyone's experience with these vaccinations but had to mention to this comment an experience I have had with my toy poodle. She only ever got her first baby shots with the breeder, I do not trust vac's as a rule. In the first yr and a half we had her we would bathe her with a type of dog shampoo which contained Pyrethrums... Toxic to pets as well as fleas!! Bella would get those fits you were telling of, exactly like that. I happened to come across a site which detailed all the toxic pesticidal shampoos and flea treatments etc amongst other pet preparations. I stopped using these and started using plain old oatmeal soap. NEVER had a "fit" since! So please don't disregard the damage flea shampoo's can do, they are dangerous and detrimental to our animals health."
01/07/2012: Mack from Ballston Lake, Ny Usa replies: "For anyone who has a pet presenting symptoms of a tick-borne infection please consider trying antibiotics if you know your pet has been bitten even if the tests come back negative for a tick infection. The side-effects from the antibiotic are so minimal and it may save your pets life.

My dog Mack was deathly ill this summer. His tick infection tests (DX4) were negative, blood work showed highly anemic but X-rays and ultrasounds were not turning up anything either. Vet took a stab at putting him on doxycycline and within 24 hours Mack began turning around. Now just 5 months later he is doing great.

By the way he's had the lyme vaccine for several years, the vaccine didn't prevent this infection and I believe he's had 2 separate reactions the past 2 years he's had the lyme vaccine. I will never give it to any of my pets again."

02/11/2012: Teresa from Rockford, Iowa replies: "I am the proud owner of a hybrid Pom a poo. When we got Rascal from the breeder, she insisted that we follow up with his puppy shots as the formulation she gives her puppies is not what your typical vet gives out-remember, they are courted by the pharmacueticals just as your physician is and we all know how they are in bed with the pharmacuetical companies by promotions and kickbacks. If we had taken him to the regular vet, the vaccinations would have killed him. We have a wonderful vet we trust explicitly for our yellow lab but our lab, Boston is 100 lb. And can probably tolerate a tummy upset but not a 3-5 lb pup that will not get any bigger. So check with your breeder's reccomendation or consult with someone who specializes in your breed and a lot of heartache can be avoided."

ADVICE FOR SIDE EFFECTS: BENADRYL AND CORTIZONE SPRAY

YEA

[YEA]  01/25/2009: Christine from Killeen, Texas writes: "I have a 6 year old Rat Terrier. After recieving her yearly rabies vaccination booster she started having adverse reactions to it. It started with a lot of scratching, and with in a few days to a week a small bald spot appeared with a small lump under the skin, about the size of a quarter. I have had a few friends whose dogs have completely lost all of their hair and regularly have scabs or sores where they recieved their injection, so I knew right away what it was. I as soon as I noticed the missing hair and felt the lump, I took her into the bathroom and washed her from head to paws with a medicated shampoo to rid her skin of any bacteria, dirt, or possible allergins. To prevent her from scratching I spray the area with a cortizone several times during the day, (this is something you can buy at the local pet store) and stop her from messing with it anytime I notice. On days that the itching seems more severe I give her a 25mg benadryl tablet and it does what I need it to do. When I think about it, I gently roll the lump between my index finger and thumb, and I also "snap" the skin a few times by pulling the lump away from her body and allowing it to snap back. This increases blood flow to the area and helps the body deal with the issue. I do these things just a few times, so I dont aggravate her or the area. So far the lump hasnt gotten any bigger, and the hair loss is only localized to that one little spot. I am happy with the results I have seen in her, the lump still isnt completly gone, but its doing much better. Her hair hasnt started to grow back either, but I figure a quarter size bald spot is better than no hair at all. I still continue to bathe her several times a week, but now I am using a oatmeal based wash. It much easier on her skin than continually using a medicated shampoo, and it seems to help with the all over itching as well. I wish you all the best of luck if you run into the same issue. I'd reccomend taking you dog to the vet if the lump continues to get bigger, if your dog gets hives, a temerature, or starts losing hair all over. I have a friend who has a toy Chiuaua and he had a severe reaction. She waited too long and didnt treat him herself so now he has open sores regularly and is hairless. By the time she got him to the vet there wasnt much the vet could do for him. They gave him a cortizone shot and some benadryl... two things anyone can do at home. I hope this helps some one, and once again good luck!!"

I was given a almost bald goat once who could not get up from the ground. within 6 months she was running with the herd and with a full shinny coat. All the Best - it works!"
04/14/2011: Becca W. from Waco, Tx replies: "Christine,

My dog lost his hair too, around the injection site and my vet said it was my fault, and that the fur would grow back once he was feeling better. He still has that triangle of fur missing on his rump, and I will always ask for diluted rabies shots from now on. I have found that Benadryl is good for almost everything that ails a dog, and that like humans, dogs deserve a second opinion too.

Karen: I think I will give that kelp powder a try.... I've tried everything else so this can't do any worse.

Thanks,

Becca"

ADVICE FOR SIDE EFFECTS: CHARCOAL

[YEA]  12/01/2008: Julee from Midway, Georgia USA writes: "I swear by activated charcoal for removing toxins from my dogs and cats and also for infections and tooth problems also used it effectively for a poisonous snake or spider bite...Maybe it is worth a try for vaccination problems.I usually give the dogs one activated charcoal pill when the problem appears and one more 12 hours later...with the cats..one pill in a can of catfood usually works."

12/13/2011: Rosie from Greer, U.s.a replies: "I have had a total of four dogs in my lifetime, two of them had reactions to vaccinations. My first dog was a male pug and had skin allergies. After vaccines, large tumors came up on his skin and there was a very strong smell that never went away. He always smelled but this was alot stronger. I now know that this permanent smell was the liver being unable to detox the vaccines and not due to the lack of bathing. The dog had to be on pregnisone the entire time, without it he would scratch and scratch until there was blood everywhere. I stayed up many nights putting him in a bath of greenzone which helped but didnt cure. I now know that his liver needed some work. He died at the age of two, from a stroke. I cant say it was directly from the vaccines but I can say that he got alot of help from the vaccines and the pregnisone. My other dog was a German Shephard, I inherited him from the neighbor that severly neglected him, she did tell me that he had heartworms, but she didnt tell me about the seizures. I questioned her about his first seizure and she doged the question, but after having many seizures, she finally admitted that his first seizure took place after he was vaccinated and was given heartworm meds. Imagine that, giving a dog with heartworms vaccines. Well that would explain his second seizure that came after the second heartworm treatment. This was a grand mal seizure and I thought that was it, but the doctor gave him a shot of steriods and it revived him. It lasted maybe a week and a half, then I gave him oral steriods every other day and then He had another seizure, but it wasnt bad. Then he got a severe infestation of round worms. I dreaded getting the meds, because I knew what was coming. I had 3 seizures, one every day. By that time, I knew this dog could no longer take any meds at all, I also knew that he couldnt handle chemicals either. But I wasnt able to put it all together fast enough. He started to decline, took him to holistic vet, she gave him an eye exam and from the look on her face I knew that this was a brain tumor. We were able to stop seizures, but not the brain tumor, I had to put him down yesterday. I now know that holistic doctors can detox these vaccines out of their systems.

As for heartworm, the meds are nasty but so is the disease. They provide heartworm nosodes that works for some animals but not all. I will spray my other two dogs with natural mosquito repellent instead of giving heartworm, which I have never done with my own dogs but after what happened to Obie, I am taking this disease far more serious. So what happened, I now know that obies liver could not detox and that all the toxins were routed to his brain which in his paticular case was the weakest organ. Toxins generally land on the weakest organs, then you have parasites, fungus, yeast, bacteria. Much like you would see with rotting garbage. Of course, I was not giving the whole truth about obies condition from the start. According to New York Times, one rabie shot should last a lifetime. My philosphy is after these experiences is one set of shots and one rabie, if you have an outdoor dog. MY new pug has hever had one, there are no racoons in my living room, at least I hope not. As for a large dog, that is more tricky, if they bite someone, and there not up to date on rabie, owner could be sued. If you want a healthy pet, stay away from the vet unless it is an emergency. Stay away from corn, diary, gluton and soy, no chemicals at all, supplements also have fillers and binders that dont set well. These expensive vet supplements have them too. There are supplements that are O, K. If you decide to vaccinate, call a holistic vet first, be ready in case you have a reaction to the shot. Most of all old dogs should die from old age, not from heartworm, tumors, seizures etc. Those were the excuses from the previous owner. Her excuse was, he was just an old dog, and she couldnt wait to put him down, as she had been trying for the past year. Each time we blocked it. It was just too inconvient and embarrassing for her. This is still too raw.sorry"

ADVICE FOR SIDE EFFECTS: CHILDREN'S DIPHENHYDRAMINE

[YEA]  10/13/2009: Rheeson from Sebring, Fl writes: "We adopted a 6 week old chihuahua, Max(his mom is a rescued miniature chihuahua, father is not known). Max weighs about 2 pounds. His first vaccination was given between 6 and 7 weeks. A friend gave him the 7 in 1 vaccine. After about 4 hours, I noticed swelling on Max's whole neck, and it was very tender (no swelling around his throat). Called a friend who works with a vet, she said to give him children's Diphenhydramine, but wasn't sure of the dosage. I gave Max 1/2 ml of liquid Diphenhydramine, repeated the 1/2 ml dose 3 hours later. I gave him another 1/2 ml dose 4 hours after the 2nd dose. By this time the swelling had gone down some, he seemed to feel better, but I just wanted to be sure he was going to be ok. By morning, the swelling was gone, he still has a little bump where the injection was done, but other than that, he seems fine."

EC: Another name for Children's Diphenhydramine is Children's Benadryl.

ADVICE FOR SIDE EFFECTS: LEMON, COLLOIDAL SILVER

[YEA]  12/01/2009: Carol from Pittsburgh, Pa. writes: "15 years ago and before I thought I was being the good pet owner and getting my dog, a mix Golden X,vaccinations whenever they were needed. Long story short, my dog acquired mast cell cancer from vaccinosis and it developed at the injection site. I did enlist a holistic vet after his vet said he only had 3 months to live. Going totally holistic with treatments, my dog lived a good quality life for 2.5 years thereafter.

I now have 2 Old English Sheepdogs who are naturally reared. They are 9 & 10 currently and have had no chemicals in or on them, are fed a raw diet and have only been to a vet once. They had their puppy shots and that was it until my one dog was diagnosed with a hernia. He had to have an operation and they wouldn't do it until he had a rabies shot. This would be his second in his lifetime. I was reluctant but knew he needed a repair of his hernia. 2 months after that shot, he developed cysts all around his neck area. Sheepdogs are extremely sensitive to shots of any kind and he did puff up at the injection site. I was told by an herbalist to take a slice of lemon and rub it on the site and the puffiness went away. I then began using Colloidal Silver in drops 2x a day on the cysts and in a matter of a week, they burst and were gone and have never returned. They will never get a rabies shot for the life of them. My dogs have never had medications either of any kind. I treat them homeopathically and herbally and they are thriving."

EC: Thank you, Carol! Your feedback has been cross-posted to the Side Effects section on the same page.

02/14/2010: Karen from Deland, Fl replies: "Here is an interesting article written by a veterinarian in Clearwater, FL....

"The Big Scam: Rabies Vaccination
written by John Fundens, D.V.M.

I would like to give you, the reader, the truth about the so called required vaccinations, particularly rabies. There are two basic forms of law. One is the legal Constitutional and Common law that this country was founded on, and the other is "colorable" law passed by Administrative agencies/bureaucrats who have been given so called authority to pass laws. Black's Law Dictionary 5th Edition defines colorable law as "That which is in appearance only, and not in reality, what purports to be, hence counterfeit, feigned, having the appearance of truth." Yes, I study the law, am a paralegal, and have an extensive law library.

So any and all mandatory rabies vaccination programs are colorable law, in that they have been passed and mandated upon the pet owning public by certain vested interest groups. Who are these groups? First and foremost are veterinarians, in general, and veterinarian medical organizations. Second are the local animal control personnel, bureaucrats and politicians. What are their reasons? GREED, POWER AND CONTROL. Both these large powerful interest groups stand to benefit greatly by having rabies mandated by colorable law.

Veterinarians receive a large percentage of both their gross income and profit from vaccines given in the office. On average vaccines cost 60 to 95 cents per dose and are charged to the client at $15 to $25 per injection and substantially more in the large cities. Therefore, if veterinarians lobby to have a colorable law passed to give rabies vaccine every year that enhances their financial picture.

The veterinary medical societies, by working with other groups and area politicians, are rewarded by increased prestige and professional standing in the community. After all we are protecting you from the dreaded disease rabies, whether it exists or not. Some areas of the country are more enlightened and fortunate to have the rabies vaccine mandated every three years. You can be assured the rise of rabies is never taken into account as to whether the vaccine should be required or not. More on this later. The local government personnel benefit by extending more control over our lives, enriching the public treasury with fees, tags and fines, and giving the appearance that local government is doing something about animal populations, disease and risks to the public. Since rabies vaccines have been mandated, what county or area has seen less dog and cat bites, better animal control, more public awareness and educating of pet owning responsibility, better birth control of unwanted animals, less euthanasia of animals and decreased growth of animal control facilities?

These special groups and lobbies will use any argument, realistic or not, to justify their position. They are excellent at using the media to spread the lies and distortions. Examples: We have increased numbers of dogs biting people, pitbulls attacking and killing children are on the increase, more dogs and cats are running loose terrorizing neighborhoods, killing wildlife and other domestic stock, etc...ad nausaem. The only thing rabies vaccination is for is the protection from rabies virus, all other justifiers for the vaccine fall under human control and exist because there are a certain number of humans, connected to animals, who are irresponsible. Rabies is spread by the bite of an infected animal. The number of dog/cat bite cases in the U.S. that expose humans to rabies is as rare as shark attacks. This low incident rate has nothing to do with mandatory vaccination as the number of cases was low before the mandatory requirement.

Let me give you an example of Pinellas County, FL where my Affinity Clinic is located. I secured information from Pinellas Animal Control through the Freedom of Information Act. The record of animal control starts in 1964. From 1964 to 1978 there were zero cases of dog rabies in the county. Magically in 1978 rabies vaccine was mandated to be given every year and all dogs tagged and licensed. WHY? Well it seems four veterinarians, with animal control bureaucrats, pushed the county board of supervisors to pass a law mandating rabies vaccination every year. There were three local vets and one professor from the State Veterinary College who were behind this. It was interesting reading their letters pushing this law and the minutes of the county meeting. There was talk of dogs biting people (no actual figures given), dogs running loose, animal overpopulation, rabies on the increase in the U.S. (the increase was in wildlife, not dogs), etc.,etc. Not once was the issue discussed that there was no rabies in the county in dogs. To this date there still has not been one case of dog rabies, including the population of dogs whose owners, GOD BLESS THEM, do not vaccinate for rabies. Let's go further.

From 1964 to 1989 there were no cases of rabies in cats in Pinellas County. Magically in 1989 a law was passed mandating rabies vaccination, tags and licenses for all cats. Same tired worn out excuses were used. Since the 1989 law there was one cat with rabies contracted from the bite of a bat. DO YOU READERS REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT I HAVE JUST STATED? This is standard throughout the Country. No allowance is made for dogs/cats who never leave the house or yard, could never be exposed to rabies under any circumstances, or who are so ill, old or at the end of their life cycle that the rabies vaccine would throw them over the edge. No, all dogs and cats are treated the same because we have the bogeyman, rabies, stalking the streets waiting to strike unprotected dogs and cats.

Is there rabies in this Country? You bet. Are there areas of this Country that have rabies in their wildlife population and do some dogs/cats become infected? You bet. But let's be realistic. Rabies has been on this earth long before man walked here and will be here long after we are gone. The only way to get rid of rabies is to remove mankind and the upper animals susceptible to the virus. Then maybe the virus will die off. It is a self limiting disease in the wild as it is fatal. So the virus has an extremely hard time spreading far and wide.

What is wrong with targeting those areas of the Country that have a problem with rabies using a realistic and specially formulated program that will protect the population at risk? Too logical and the special groups don't make any money. Why not educate the pet owner to the risks and dangers and let them decide whether the immune system damage from rabies vaccination is greater or lesser than contracting the disease. We do have a God given Constitutionally secured right to LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Public health officials always have the right to mandate emergency health care procedures in case the public, in general does not respond properly. But why should every day, month and year be as if an emergency or crisis exists? And why should we have more and more control of our lives taken from us?

The vaccines, particularly rabies, are a political and economic scam being forced upon pet owners because they do not know the truth. Rabies, nationwide, is nowhere near the problem the veterinarians, media, politicians and bureaucrats would like you to believe. If you wish more of the truth go to your local city or county government building and look up the codes and statutes concerning vaccines and rabies. Get figures from local animal control for rabies in dogs, cats and wildlife in your area. Then you can start to fight back, take control of your life, and protect your pet from the only dreaded disease that is important--special interest groups pushing their program leading to vaccine induced damaged immune systems. Only you can set yourself free.

Current Veterinary Therapy by Kirk, the textbook bible for veterinarians in general, has an article on canine and feline vaccines by two researchers. Near the end of the article is a paragraph called Annual Vaccinations. It states "The practice of annual vaccinations lacks scientific validity or verification. There is no immunological requirement for annual vaccinations. The practice of annual vaccinations should be considered of questionable efficacy unless it is used as a mechanism to provide an annual physical examination or is required by law." Sure, if we can't manipulate you with annual vaccinations let's pass a law to get you into the office. Nice trick!

Well reader, it is your choice. I can only hope to stimulate you to look and go further. You don't have to take this suppression. Fight back. The only thing you have to lose is your freedom and you have already lost a great deal of it. I can fight with you but I can't do it alone.""

08/26/2010: Kim from Fort Lauderdale, Florida replies: "Lucia, In Fort Lauderdale you can request the rabies shot that is good for three years versus doing it annually. Hopefully, the same option is available in Miami ask your vet or call the Humane Society."
08/28/2010: Isabelle from Garden Grove, Ca Usa replies: "Hi Lucia! Look for a vet who is working with alternative methods like acupuncture and homeopathy and talk to him about it. Sometime they can get a waver depending of the situation. That what I do in california. Good luck! "
11/27/2010: Leann from Lake Bluff, I, Usa replies: "Please everyone, do not do the 3-year rabies shot for your beloved pet! Last year our vet recommended the 3-year to save us time from doing the yearly shot. We went ahead and did it for our 8 year old, 90 LB mountain dog/collie rescue. At first, we didn't see any major reactions to the new shot other than the normal sessions of seasonal allergies resulting in swollen nodes that a healthy dose of antibiotics would resolve. These allergies and resulting skin infections were a lot more frequent since doing the shot, but we didn't think it was out of the norm, nor did the vet.

Seven months later, we brought the dog in for allergies and swollen lymph nodes. Tests were taken and came back positive for lymphoma, which has no cure in the canine world. Incidentally, the cancer arose in the area that the shot was administered. Until getting involved in the canine cancer community in an attempt to treat and get a few more months with our dog, I made the discovery that many dogs faced with similar cancer diagnosis had owners that were doing the 3-year or even the yearly shots. We feel terrible that we put our beloved dog through the unnecessary multiple shots year after year. Vets commonly will give several shots at once, which puts a lot of undue stress on your dog's body. Humans get shots when they are little and as adults don't get a bunch more. If you are going to give your pet shots, please consider doing it in their early years and after doing a "blood titer test" to see if the vaccine levels in the dog's body are still acceptable. (They usually are for many years after). I believe the blood test costs more than the shots, but losing your pet to illnesses related to over-vaccinating them is worse.

Additionally, you should also be reading the label on commercial pet food to make sure that it doesn't contain "meat by-products. " I've researched and found that there wasn't a lot of regulation of the pet food market until recently. Meat by-products are things like chicken beaks, feathers, euthanized animals or rotting carcasses sold for rendering into pet food. Some companies have come out in response to not using by-products, and changing out their food to healthy meats like we would eat. Maybe I'm a little skewed because our dog has cancer, but in finding out some of the sources it can come from, we do have some choices.

In most areas, titer tests are acceptable to pass the annual rabies vaccination requirement and receive the tags. Your vet will have to test the blood and then put it into writing that your pet has acceptable levels of the vaccine in their system and provide this to the local ordinance to receive the tags. I've contacted several vets and found there are quite a few out there that do the titering because they do not recommend over-vaccinating through an animal's entire life because the vaccines stay in their systems for so long. Hope this helps someone."

01/18/2012: Ashley from Modesto, Ca replies: "Just so everyone is clear, the 3 year rabies vaccine is actually the exact same as the 1 year vx. Through research vets realized that the vaccine actually stayed in the system working for longer, therefore they extended the time it is good for."

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  12/01/2009: Val from San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico writes: "My 21 mo old 6 lb Female Papillon developed allergy symptoms, gastric problems, and some nervous, paranoid and insecure behavior soon after receiving a SQ rabies vaccine in her right shoulder. Symptoms were mild to begin with but worsened over the next several weeks. We initially treated with Children's Benadryl 12 mg orally TID. 5 weeks after being vaccinated, at the vaccine site she developed a large area of alopecia (2" wide by 3" long and appears to still be increasing in size) which is quite large for such a small dog. We started treating with Temeril-P 1 Tab BID and decreasing dose. She's near completion with her with the Temeril-P and has just started Pentoxifylline therapy o.25 ml BID (120 mg/ml). My Vet had it compounded into a liquid, due to the fact that it only comes in a non dividable time released coated caplet at the pharmacies. The gastric upset and itching has improved, though she is still foot licking and face rubbing. This is an extremely beautiful, well bred show dog, and beloved friend. I'm concerned about long term effects, and of the alopecia increasing in area and possibly affecting her beautiful ears and face. Anything more I can do to help insure she recovers completely?"

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

09/25/2011: Leenott from Edmonton, Ab, Canada writes: "Hi,

I have 3 little dogs which will have to have a TOTALLY unnecessary Rabies shot before they will be allowed back into Australia. They had a Rabies shot last year in October and will have to have another as AQIS (Australian Quarantine) demands that the shot be within ONE year of them entering Australia.

I am VERY concerned the effect this will have as 2 of them are elderly.

WHERE can I get Lyssin and/or Thuja ? I am not getting very far searching through Google for homeopaths. I found an online company which will make up a remedy for $45 EACH!!!!

Thank you,

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  06/16/2009: Zuzana from Tweed Coast, NSW, Australia writes: "Allergic Skin reaction as a result of C4 vaccine in dogs :

I have recently got a puppy at 8 weeks old, wo had his first combination vaccine at age 7 weeks, distemper, parvo and hepatitis. As someone who didn't want to expose my puppy to unneccesary vaccines, I chose to only give 1 more vaccine at 12 weeks. 10 days later my puppy broke out in a rash with his hair sticking up causing little bumps all over his back. He is on a fully natural raw diet, has had no contact to any new plants or allergens that I can think of, and I believe the vaccine has caused his immune system to weaken. I gave him a remedy of Thuja, as well as Apis to relieve the itching, which seemed to help. The following day I also gave an activated charcoal tablet and sprayed ACV on his skin. Within 5 days I saw a noticable improvement. I continued the same diet, also adding in ACV, flaxseed oil, garlic and kelp. 2 weeks later he had another itchy rash come up, this time starting on his belly and sides, seemingly effecting the parts of his skin where it had previously not been. I have succesfully treated the very red raw rash on his belly with the same treatments as above, but am still battling the remaining parts on his sides which he keeps itching. I am convinced this is a result of the vaccine and I hope to build his immune system to overcome these reactions and never vaccinate him again. Just in case this may help anyone with similar problems."

ADVICE FOR SIDE EFFECTS: NOSODES

02/06/2009: Emily from Goodyear, AZ writes: "Pet & Human Vaccinations: I was doing research for alternatives to vaccinating my son and found many vets using Nosodes instead of traditional vaccinations. Here is a quickie Wikipedia explanation of Nosodes:

"Nosodes are homeopathic remedies that are made from the specific products of a particular disease. This can be tissue containing the actual disease agents or tissue affected by those agents. Sometimes nosodes are made from vaccines containing the organisms. The nosodes are prepared in a diluted and potentized form just like all other homeopathic medicine. There is no potential for an animal to become infected with a given disease agent from a nosode because of the pharmaceutical process that occurs which dilutes and inactivates any viable organisms."

Anyhow, I continued my search to see if they can be used on people as well and found a local doctor who prepared all of the vaccinations my son needs. If you are looking for an alternative for your pet or baby, check out Nosodes."

[YEA]  06/06/2009: Sally from Saline, MI writes: "Homeopathic for Rabies side effects:

1 dose of homeopathic Thuja cured my dog of his rabies vaccination side effects.

My goldendoodle goes to daycar 1 or 2 days per week. He is mild mannered and gentle. Within 1 week of his first rabies vaccine, the daycare owner said that Farley was picking fights and and really going for blood. He did that a couple of days and was about to be "kicked out of school."

I consulted with Farley's former trainer. Then I realized he'd had that rabies shot about 2 weeks before. Based on past learning and experience, I gave him one dose of Thuja 30C (available in any healthfood store) and waited a few days.

When Farley went back to daycare, he was back to being a perfect gentleman and has remained so for 3 years. Yes. It's time for another government-mandated vaccine that I'd rather avoid. But I'll give him the Thuja and he'll be fine."

[YEA]  01/01/2009: Patricia from Tucson, Arizona writes: "Thuja- I used the remedy described in early comments for Thuja, exactly as described for my Cream Champagne Mackeral Tabbie cat, Jojo. I took him for his annual vaccinations (he previously had the recommended sets of kitten boosters a year ago, December 2007 was the second booster) and he recieved FVRCPC, FELV and Rabies Feline 3 Year shots. I did this fully believing that this is good for his protection and I wanted my bebe to be taken care of. He weighed in at 16.9 lbs, and is currently 19 months old (DEC 08). Very healthy, enough that the vet and his assistant had very nice compliments about him. Jojo is a sweet tempered cat and still a baby in personality, charming many who meet him with his baby-like face and personality. I was with him while he recieved his shots and he came home fine, bouncy as usual. The next morning was not fine, he was sweaty looking, clamped onto the sofa and fearful when I tried to pick him up, growling when I did manage to pick him up (I never heard him growl before) and the space between his shoulders appeared puffy and he "flickered" his fur there constantly. He actually trembled when I tried to pick him up again. I have never seen a reaction like this before and to say the least it is still distressing! I just tried to let him be still and tried not to scare him that I would touch him. I re-read the paper sent home about reactions to vaccines and the looked it up on the internet. Through "The Pet Whisperer" I came here on a link. I read some of the statements and was beside myself of what to do. I got the impression a regular vet would be extremely costly and still not effective. But I did read the Thuja remedy and an Activated Charcoal remedy. I wrote both down and went to Whole Foods Market and found both. I made the Thuja as described and started with that. Jojo accepted the liquid easily and gratefully. At this point he still stayed curled and hadn't moved from where I had left him. In about two hours Jojo got up on his own and went to his food bowl and ate a little. I gave him another dropper then and another before bed, a few hour later. He was impressively better. He was still a little shy and fearful of me petting his shoulders, but this next morning let me pet him as usual and appears to not have discomfort or pain. I will continue the droppers today and maybe tomorrow, if it appears to be neccessary. I do not believe I will be getting him vaccinated again! He is an indoor cat and I don't want this to happen again! I wish I would have known about this before. Now I am so grateful someone shared specific information and explained it so I felt it worth a try! My "monkey" is a part of my life, he came to me off the street and found my house somehow, as kindred spirits do. Thank you for being here! Through stories we tell we can help each other and someone's story helped me."

[YEA]  06/03/2011: Patricia from Tucson, Arizona replies: "Again I have used the Thuja remedy for a Bombay female feline, 1.5 years old, that I adopted from our local Humane Society at an adoption Fair at a local PetsMart. She had already been spayed and given shots to prepare her for the adoption, as their responsible practice dictates. I noticed her belly was firm and she was very shy, staying at the back of the cage, but she came to me when the volunteer opened the door for me and was very loving. She is jet black with gold and green eyes, with even her toenails being black. I took her adoption ID collar off at home and noticed her fur was rough and shorter where the collar had rubbed it. Her fur was thinned, although I didn't find bald spots, and it seemed dry. Her inner eyelids were showing at the corners, a sign of unwellness in cats. She would hiss when I would try to reach for her in her hiding places (normal for a cat who is afraid and does not know someone, but a reminder of my previous incident with Jojo) but she would be very affectionate as soon as I began to pet her and never applied teeth or claws. What a sweetie! I re-read the stories after a search for this remedy again because I felt inside that maybe her hissing was not all out of fear. I gave her 1 dose, crushing and melting the tiny tablet in 1/3 shot glass of bottled water and using an eyedropper to give the liquid under her tongue. I did not touch the tablet, just dropped it into the glass from the vial. She was out and about my home within a couple of days and has not been hissing since I gave her the remedy. I have only had her for about 3 weeks, her fur is glossy and jet to the skin and her eyes are clear and bright. She is bouncy and affectionate, since the second day she came home and I believe the remedy helped clean out her system from the vaccinations and surgery medications (they told me she had antibiotics after surgery). Although she was pretty then, Nola is shiney and smooth now! PS She adores Jojo, see my story from 01/01/2009. I am so grateful for the stories people share here! Thank you all!"

[YEA]  07/26/2008: Sherry from Marquette, MI writes: "The Nature of Animal Healing by Martin Goldstein DVM is an excellent source regarding the dangers of vaccines. I too had a cat experience an allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with the Feline Leukemia vaccine. She lived since prompt medical care was possible. However, last week, I tried to save a 3 month old kitten (feral) with a temperature of 106, diarrhea and vomiting. Homeopathics were attempted as well as antibiotics and Sub-Q fluids. We lost her. Two vets believed it was from feline distemper. Goldstein in his work does recommend one feline distemper injection for kittens for lifetime immunity. However, vaccines are over done, and there is evidence that the leukemia one does not have a good success rate (check the internet). It is a difficult decision whether to vaccinate or not, but less I feel is better. Rabbies should not be given as a combo is what I have read in different sources. The rabbies vaccine should also be given at a different time then the other vaccinations.

Thuja homeopathic is supposed to help the ill effects of vaccines. It is non toxic. It can be taken with antibiotics and other medications. It won't interfer with western medicine. To administer, dilute a pellet or tablet of 30c in water and apply a dropperful to the mucous membranes of the mouth, drop by drop. For the medication to be effective, it needs to be administered in this format. The pill or tablet can not be given by having the animal swallow it whole. Doing so, would yield no results. It needs to be diluted in water only and administered two times a day for two-three days. There is no taste to the mixture, so animals accept it well. I have had experience with cats in a shelter using homeopathics and have seen respiratory infections resolve quickly. I have used it on my own cats for asthma and infections with excellent results. But finding the correct homeopathic to turn around a major disease such as feline distemper can be very difficult, if not almost impossible. I say "almost" hesitantly because I still do believe there was a homeopathic that could have turned the kitten around, but I didn't have it in my cabinet. This is where vaccines can assist in prevention. Therefore, a feline distemper vaccine administered to a kitten may be warranted for, according to Goldstein, it seems to offer lifetime immunity. Once again, I do believe that vaccines are administered in too high combo's which can be dangerous. Moderation is always the best course of action. Hope this helps.

The above information is offered for education purposes only and a vet should be consulted when a course of action is desired."

I just feel trapped between a rock and a hard place. Does anyone know of anything homeopathic or otherwise that I can give my dog to counteract the rabies shot?"

08/26/2011: Debbie from Gainesville, Fl replies: "Yes, there is an alternative. I'm surprised your homeopathic practitioner didn't mention it. There are homeopathic preparations called nosodes that are made from the pathogens they target. There is a rabies nosode. However, our governments don't recognize it as an effective alternative to the vaccine, although it is very much so. Therefore, they won't let vets issue rabies certificates based on administration of the nosode. If you cannot get the nosode and if you need the rabies certificate, then you will have to get the regular vaccination. Be sure that your dog is strong and healthy. The rules for vaccination clearly state that only healthy animals need be vaccinated. Check on that. When he's ready, prepare him by starting him on Zeolite enhanced with DHQ (available online. ) Continue the zeolite until the bottle is empty. Your homeopath should not be so difficult about this. Yes, there will be a set back but you can minimize it with zeolite and homeopathics (Thuja, usually. )

Also, educate yourself about veterinary homeopathy by getting Dr. Pitcairns complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats, especially the section on vaccinations. Dr. Pitcairn pioneered veterinary homeopathy in the U. S. I hope you get this info in time."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  08/30/2010: Carrie from Manchester, Ct writes: "I bought a rescue puppy at 4 months of age. When I bought her, she seemed perfectly healthy. Stools were normal - she had energy and seemed very healthy. I took her to the vet for her check up and to clear her for any issues. She had a small ear infection which was cleared up easily enough with an ear cleaning and drops, and the vet recommended I give her Lyme vaccination. I was reluctant, but the vet convinced me it was necessary. So, she got her Lyme vaccine. I was due to go in a week later for her 5 in 1 vaccine which included Parvo. I saw another vet that day due to the one who originally gave her the vaccinations not being available. He gave her the 5 in 1 vaccine, and he injected her with ANOTHER Lyme vaccine. He told me it was Lyme as he was injecting her. I told him that she already had her Lyme vaccine last week and she wasn't due for her second for 2 more weeks. He looked perplexed, pulled the needle out, and didn't charge me for the vaccine. He didn't even put it on the bill that he GAVE her any Lyme vaccine. The very next day, my dog had terrible mucus filled diarrhea. HORRIBLE. She became dehydrated, despite me giving her water orally via a syringe, and so 2 days later I took her back to the vet. They gave me a prescription for the possibility of worms even though her feces showed no worms, and gave my antibiotics in case she had an infection in her intestines. Her poo got better. Markedly better. Normal! I felt much better. 4 days ago, her prescription ran its course. 3 days ago, her poo was fine. 2 days ago, it started getting softer, but still formed a normal shape. Yesterday, it was extremely soft. Pudding like. I began feeding her a bland diet, and added a little canned pumpkin in there for added fiber. Last night, her feces were extremely soft, and I knew I was in for a sleepless night. I was up almost all night with her, taking her out several times to poo. Her poo got much worse throughout the night until around 5am it was total mush. She is once again quiet, and I am force feeding her water. I made an appointment with the vet and her appointment is at 3:40pm. Although, I'm taking her to the same vet office I believe made her sick in the first place. I'm seriously considering taking her somewhere different. What should I do?? I really need help to make my puppy healthy, but I feel lost as there is no diagnoses for her issues, at least thus far."

" And inferred he has some natural selection form of illness that meant he died as a puppy but that night, we took him to an emergency vet on call in Liverpool, a vet of the same chain as the first, and miraculously, as I was crying my heart out and my dad was mad at the first vets, all this vet did was inject him with some form of pain killer or anti-biotics and he was literally fine after ten minutes."

07/16/2010: Julie from Coventry, England writes: "I own and run an extremely successful hydrotherapy pool for dogs. This means over the period of 14 years I have treated thousands of dogs. Very many, including my previous dog, Monty, have suffered many and numerous side effects from over vaccination. These range from weakness in legs, auto-immune diseases, such as arthritis, skin complaints with rashes and skin turning black, hot spots, hair loss, nerve damage and brain damage. I, amongst, a growing number, including a long list of alternative vets in England, believe dogs do not need vaccines throughout their lives. When I realised my beloved Monty was vaccine damaged, I had teeter tests performed, this shows the anti bodies in the dogs blood. Every year Monty had high levels of resistance to parvo, distemper, para-influenza & distemper. The test does not show lepto. I believe you should wait till puppy is 12 weeks, so the immune system is better able to cope, before giving vaccines and after the initial 2 sets, 2 weeks apart, then they are protected for life. No flea or tick treatments either they are another form of toxins our dogs systems can do without. Go with your instinct on all matters concerning your dog and remember to question always. . . Whose interest is it in. . Your dogs or your vets."

I did have my golden retriever's levels also tested (except for rabies) and she too had high levels of resistance after 3 years of not having any shots. However, I did give her a 3 years rabies shot. I am thinking she won't need another one again."
07/16/2010: Lisa from Wichita Falls, Tz replies: "Julie, I agree! My little chihuahua mix is over 11 years old now and He has not had vaccines in years because he would get sick for days when he got the rabies. I am scared of the stuff! Think about it, every year people put so much stuff into the bodies of their pets. And, you hear alot of animals getting cancer and all kinds of things. People don't do this to them selves so, why do they do it to their pets every year?Little bodies cannot handle all of the bad stuff that is put into them like that! ! Just my opinion. . . "
07/19/2010: Rainman from Central, Vt, Usa replies: "Catherine. . . Rabies titers absolutely exist. In fact, I think most dogs have to have this done before they can be transported to another country. If your vet is saying there isn't a titer. . . You need to find a new vet."

[YEA]  05/04/2010: Javagenie from Central, Vt, Usa writes: "I have a Boxer that had distemper and rabies shot last November 2009 (he was about a year old). About a month later he started to develop severe dry/red skin with blotches. He was digging at his skin constantly and obsessively. We finally brought him to the vet and they gave him a round of antibiotics that helped clear it up slightly. For months afterwards, he kept having these out breaks about once a month. This past spring (2010) we took him again because he had itchy skin. They gave him the same antibiotics and not realizing he had already been vaccinated for rabies a few months ago administered another shot. About 2 weeks later he started digging at himself even more than he has ever done before. He also started to act differently (aggressive at time and sometimes confused). We brought him back to the vet and they administered a shot of cortisone. That night he started to have these seizure looking episodes that only affected the movement of his head and he was completely concious and alert. Regardless of our description the vet's diagnosised it as focal epileptic seizures and immediately started to administer phenobarbitol. After about 2days later with the phenobarbitol not working, he was looking terrible and I was beginning to wonder if he was going to survive. By this time I was loosing faith with our vet. So, I began to do some extensive internet research. I found that the seizures were actually called "head tremors" and some believe are to be caused from vaccinations and/or a compromised immune system. This led me down a long trail of information about vaccinations and specifically overvaccinosis. I immediately started to administer milk thistle combined with dandelion root and burdock. The head tremors immediately started to get better and within a few days he stopped having them. Only on a few occassions within the past 4-6wks has he had them since giving him this liver detox formula. After finding great success with this natural miracle cure... We seeked the council of a hollistic/homeopathic vet and have been trying to repair the damage caused by this unnecessary vaccination protocol. After about a month of a raw diet, supplements, and homeopathic treatments our beloved pet is starting to make some improvements. He is still in the detox phase... so, it is tough some days. But, we are all confident that he will have an almost full recovery within the next 12mo.

My advice to anyone who has noticed any changes in their pet following any vaccinations within 3mo. is to seek a naturalistic vet ASAP. If it were not for sites like these my dog would have been dead at the hands of a normal veterinarian professional. It's time for the medical community to wake up and stop poisoning us and our pets with toxins! Stop treating symptoms and treat the cause naturally and safely!!!!"

07/22/2009: Belle from Whitby, ON. Canada writes: "From what I have read (and I have read quite extensively on this subject) the vets buy the vaccines in pre-measured doses from the pharmaceutical companies. The doses are not properly adjusted for the animal's size and weight, and so your dog may well have been overdosed. Also, more problems arise with time, as the dogs become over-vaccinated with unecessary yearly boosters. I have two purebred shih tzu, aged 3yr... and 6 yr. The older one has developed auto-immune problems (problems seldom seen years ago when few dogs were ever vaccinated). This dog has received its last vaccinations and so has the 3 year old. I would have stopped sooner, but I have pet insurance which always asks the vet on each claim form if the pet's vaccinations are up to date. I have eliminated this condition by cancelling the pet insurance! The money I save on premiums and on unnecessary vaccinations (not covered by insurance) will be better spent on holistic vet care. I will spend my money on titer tests to determine if their level of immunity is sufficient, rather than vaccinate willy-nilly with a backward-thinking vet. There is only ONE holistic vet in my area and she has a long waiting list for patients. Most vets were so heavily indoctrinated at veterinary college and cannot (or will not) break free of their paradigm (framework of thinking) from what they were initially taught. Also, vaccination is a large percentage of their revenue. I like my current vet very much and hate changing to another one, but this vaccination nonsense and her over-reliance on antibiotics (which are not even successful) leaves me no choice but to pursue holistic treatment on my own while I work my way up the waiting list for the holistic vet.

And oh, by the way, in my reading I have found out that there have been a number of "faulty vaccines" not properly prepared by the companies, with tragic results. Get a good book (such as "Vaccine Guide for Dogs and Cats") on this subject at a holistic pet store or try online."

Please be an informed pet owner and find out what is required BY LAW in your state as to NOT over vaccinate your pet. (and then ask your vet to low dose it)

Over vaccination is a huge health hazard to your pets. There are many holistic vets now if you do some research.
Over vaccination creates a revenue generating pet for the conventional vet and usually leads to life of misery for the poor pet that is suffering a whole bunch of auto immune diseases and seizures, allergies etc....
Take some time and research!! So many pets dying from poor quality food-over vaccination and poor quality water.
All they have is us to depend on don't let them down!"

06/02/2009: CShep from Conyers, Georgia writes: "As requested, I'm emailing regarding vaccination affects we've had in our pets.

In 2004, we had a 5 year old female husky to die within 2 hours of receiving her vaccination. She'd had shots every year (DA2PP) without any problems. This year the vet added the Corona Vaccine which is what we think killed her.

We took her for an necropsy immediately to UGA Vet School. Receiving vet said there was no doubt she died from vax reaction. The vet doing the necropsy had the cell phone number to my vet (they knew each other), made personal calls to each other. I think to protect my vet from a law suit or what-not, the vet doing the necropsy reported her death inconclusive, died from swelling in brain (encyphelytis). Thus, this tragedy could not be reported to the vaccine companies!!!!

The same day, a 3 year old Shih Tzu had what I call neurological effects. He was despondent and screamed if we touched him for 3 days. Its like all his nerves were very sensitive. For an addl 7 days he was distant and a touch-me-not and whimpered if we touched him. He had never had any reactions to a vaccine before. I also contribute this to the corona that was added to the vaccine.

The vet REFUSED to believe that his vaccine caused either of these. Yet, on the same day I had 2 dogs severely affected.

I have since learned that corona only affects puppies; thus, no need to ever be given to an adult dog. Yet, most vets include this in the vaccine protocol. I now buy my own vaccinations and give the shots myself on a more conservative protocol due to the new findings of how we are way over vaccinating our pets.

I encourage all to learn about the vaccines their pets are getting and do not accept a vets word that all are safe. He's in business to make money. When adding the corona vax in 2004, the vet charged an addl $30 per vaccine!!!!!

Sincerely,
CShep3"

EC: Thank you, CShep. We're cross-posting your feedback in the advice section and the side effects section.

05/31/2009: Juliana from Boulder, CO writes: "When my dog becamse seriously ill, I found a product that used refined cow colostrum to substitute for a lack of immunity. Actual colostrum is a milk product and dogs stop absorbing milk after weaning. The refined product seems to overcome this problem. I have used this for dogs seeming to be under the weather. I used it for my own resistant respiratory infection.

I have heard that it is helpful if givern before and after doggie vaccinations. I had planned to use it for the next mandatory rabies vaccination. My dog died before I had a chance to use this.

Also rabies vaccinations are now usually given in a leg as opposed to the neck. This is because that vaccine can cause a specific cancer and a neck cannot be amputated. This infuriates me.

Also micro-chipped dogs and people can develop a specific cancer that grows around the glass enclosed chip. A certain company is working behind the scenes to make micro-chipping mandatory for certain populations.

I didn't chip my dog or vaccinate him during later adulthood. He died last Sunday; he was 15 years old. That is rare these days.

Since topical pest control products are nerve agents, I washed my dog often and used essential oils as flea and tick protection. Losing them at any age is just awful.

Juliana"

03/20/2009: Joni from McKinney, TX writes: "When my first mini doxie received his first rabies vaccination, he swelled up like he had tumors all over his body. Immediately, returned to vet and just in time as his airway was almost completely closed. Vet immediately administered multiple allergy meds. A medical letter was written to our local county that this dog was never to be vaccinated again. When he was two years of age, allergies (food and skin) came on strong. I then cooked his own meals for the rest of his life and was on a med to control the skin issues. He lived 14 years and died from diabetes. When he was 13, he did bite a friend. The vet did a titers test and sure enough that one vaccine he had as a baby was still in his system. I currently have two doxies now and I had to vaccinate them due to county and state laws. They were given allergy meds at the same time. They did fine and I hear that the laws are changing if doing a titers test. VERY IMPORTANT, if a pet needs to be vaccinated, get a morning appt and make sure your vet is available just in case there is a reaction. Never vaccinate on a Friday if vet office is closed on weekends. Using Revolution, also stopped my one doxie from vomiting and lowered his liver levels dramatically. I would still like to research a more holistic approach."

We took our cat there after he developed cronic renal failure which my wife and I feel was caused by a rabies booster shot. You will be horrified about what these shots and the commercial pet food industry has done and is doing to our pets. Our cat is doing much better since seeing Dr. Marty and he now only eats poached chicken and baby sweet potatoes. Dr. Marty believes in feeding our pets what we eat (yes with restrictions). Buy this book. PS I am not related to Dr. Marty nor get any royalties from him. I just care about my cat. He's my pal "
